Well, that was fast.

The Council of State meeting is over. Early reports are coming out from WRAL, The News & Observer, NBC-17/The Associated Press, and so on.

The short version is that the Council, by a 6-3 vote (Insurance Commissioner Jim Long, Secretary of State Elaine Marshall, and School Superintendent June Atkinson dissenting), voted to approve the execution protocol. The Council also unanimously approved a non-binding resolution asking the General Assembly to examine North Carolina’s lethal injection procedure.
